Message from the President
The PRI family wishes you and your family a very happy and prosperous 2010. Welcome to the fourth edition of "The PRI Vision" newsletter. This newsletter is a quick read to bring you up-to-date on the company, services, staff and the families that support our efforts to serve you.
We have been busy this past year with new projects from both new and existing clients. Our services have continued to expand to meet the challenges and needs of our clients and economic environment. We are currently working on new projects for renewable energy, along with adding to existing work in areas of expertise - Municipal, Chemical Process, Pharmaceutical, Forensic and other projects that strategically fit into our service offering.
The new Renewable Energy focus for Michigan fits well into our project expertise. Our Municipal wastewater work is a natural transition to the waste-to-energy conversion area, and our expertise and talents continue to grow in this market. We have separated ourselves from our competition by continuing to take on the most challenging and complicated projects working with a team approach.
Although 2009 had its challenges, we finished strong and value our clients, business partners, vendors and friends of the firm who have made us successful over the past nineteen years. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or project concerns—we’re here to help you!
Municipal Group
Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Municipalities are receiving funds to upgrade sewer systems, improve water quality, roads and other projects.
PRI's Municipal group has been awarded water treatment and distribution, sewers, pump stations, site development, and other projects.
We focus on providing results that best serve the interest of our clients. Please go to our website www.processresults.com to learn more about our municipal engineering services.
Energy Renewal Market
Our energy renewable projects continue to expand. The EPA's 2010 diesel engine emission standards have changed to require further reduction of nitrogen oxides (NOx)emitted. This resulted in engine manufacturers to employ selective catalytic reduction (SCR) as an after treatment technology. A small amount of urea-based solution called diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) is injected directly into the exhaust upstream of a catalyst, which in conjunction with the SCR catalyst, reacts with NOx to convert the pollutant into nitrogen and water. This process will result in fuel economy from 3-5%.
PRI worked with major diesel equipment manufacturers and DEF distribution companies with handling and distribution of DEF throughout their plants, and to help develop a DEF distribution infrastructure.

Maintaining Your Electrical System — An electrical system requires maintenance to operate properly, and poor maintenance can lead to electric shock and arc flash incidents. Even if an incident does not occur, it can increase the hazards of an electrical system. According to NFPA 70E-2009 a protective device's design and opening time along with "its condition of maintenance" must be considered when performing an arc flash hazard analysis. Performing preventative maintenance (see NFPA 70E-2009 Chapter 2), along with an electrical shock and arc flash hazard analysis, helps protect workers and improve the safety of electrical systems.
An arc flash hazard analysis should be updated if any of the following occur:
- The utility electrical supply or protective device has been modified.
- A major renovation has occurred.
- Five years have passed since an electrical shock and arc flash hazard analysis has been performed.
